The Course
Many therapists want to use art materials with their clients, but they aren’t sure how to appropriately do this while also following the number one ethics guideline: Do no harm. You don’t have to become a Creative Arts Therapist, like an art therapist, expressive arts therapist, or a play therapist, to use art materials in an ethical way. This live course thoroughly introduces attendees to the ethical guidelines and training of the Art Therapy profession, provides guidelines for therapists to identify their own level of training in using art with clients, and gives a small taste of the training Art Therapists experience within their training.
As a therapist, I always value when a training goes past theory or general concepts and actually teaches how to utilize this new knowledge practically within your therapy sessions. Attendees will be taught 6 different interventions, with handouts that include supplies lists, instructions, and processing questions, to use with adult and adolescent clients, as expressive arts is for more than just the kids!
No expressive arts workshop is complete without getting to actually make some art! For the 6th intervention, the class will learn and practice the intervention in real time, from their own homes, and process the experience in small groups. No prior artistic experience or ability expected or required!
Why you should learn with us
As an art therapist, I’m often asked by therapists how they can become an art therapist or therapists will tell me about how they are doing “art therapy” with their clients, which brings up concerns due to the extensive training Art Therapists go through. I also have found that many therapists know how to best use art materials with children, but are surprised that art can be used clinically with adults and teenagers too! However, there is not a good resource out there for bridging the gap between using art in clinical settings and being an Art Therapist. Let me be that bridge for you and help you feel empowered to use art ethically and within your own training level and experience with your clients.

Art Therapist, Therapist, Clinical Team Lead
My experience comes from 10 years of clinical work within multiple settings, an educational foundation of an Illustration and Drawing undergraduate degree and a Masters in Counseling and Art Therapy, and the lifelong love for art making I’ve nurtured in all stages of my life. Clinically, I’ve worked with clients of all ages, in acute, residential, and outpatient settings, with a variety of presenting concerns and populations. Utilizing all of this experience, I’ve learned what works well and what absolutely doesn’t, what materials are safest to use, and what ages may gravitate toward which interventions.
My specialties of working with the LGBTQIA+ community, chronically ill clients, and clients who’ve experienced trauma has shaped my teaching style to be mindful of the needs of groups with various levels of needs, abilities, and special considerations.
Outside of the clinical setting, I have experience training for continuing education and community level events, and I have volunteered with TakeThis, Georgia Safe Schools Coalition, the Georgia Art Therapy Association, and the LGBTQ Therapist Resource.
